Exploring and addressing the emotional impact of interpreting is essential for students entering the field of interpreting. Building awareness and practical tools early in your career can reduce the risk of burnout, strengthen long-term resilience, and cultivate a more sustainable work-life balance.

This interactive workshop explores the invisible weight interpreters carry when exposed to others’ trauma, distress, or high-stakes situations. Students will learn how vicarious trauma, secondary stress, and compassion fatigue can affect interpreters—especially those still developing professional boundaries and self-awareness.In this student workshop, we’ll practice using a trauma-informed lens to recognize early warning signs of stress, practice emotional regulation, and create sustainable self-care habits.
